My Style @ Gangnam Style
Honestly, I am skeptical in eating here since the boom of the Psy’s song Gangnam Style, we all know that “bandwagon effect” when something is popular everyone follows without knowing any of it. What drives me to try this, is their wide selection of soup at a really reasonable price. I’ve been to a lot of Korean eats and so far this is the cheapest I’ve encountered.
OUR ORDERS:
Stock Soup of bone and soup 270 Php (설렁탕)
A non-spicy soup consists ox tongue with cellophane noodles(misua) and a heaps of green onions served in a extremely hot pot. It has that milky off-white, cloudy appearance since it is typically simmered over a low flame over a period of several hours.
Chadolbagi 400 Php (차돌박이)
This was served already cooked for us. I know it’s more fun to cook it yourself but it doesn’t hurt if they want to serve it already cooked as the taste is still superb. I actually forgot to ask if there is a minimum order to grill it yourself or the time that we went there is not the best time for DIY (as most authentic Korean foodhouse rule).
Mandu/Dumpling 150 Php (만두)
Your choice of steamed or fried, since we already have a soup we opted for the fried mandu. It is served in a chopping board with its sauce. Well usually the fried mandu is in flat shape, they served theirs as round. A hint of spiciness is present with its usual pork and glass noodles mixture. Definitely will try the steamed version next time.
Grilled Chicken Ribs 350 Php (숯불영념닭갈비)
We added this to our order since we were assuming that the previous dish will not suffice. It arrived way way late that we are already feeling the weight of our food. Nonetheless, it was well marinated and delicious.
Refillable Banchan for the Day: Wonbok Kimchi, Sweet Kamote, Leeks in egg batter, chives lettuce and green onions with dressing, Zucchini and Steamed Sayote.
Desserts for Free. They served a patbingsoo with syrup. It is a red bean with shaved ice.
The Side Story...
The place is located @ P.Burgos St. just after the Red Light District and it is already 3am and nothing good happens after 2am (HIMYM) right? Hahaha… Anyways, as we were walking towards Kalayaan St. to hail a cab, 3 giant foreigners are in our way, we immediately crossed the street and did a speed walking as I can feel and was definitely sure that they were following behind us, I glanced back to check and confirmed they U-turned their way and started shouting at what it seems like “hey” to them as I am 100% sure that they are not American. The speed walking turns into a “run for your life” speed, you know your usual murder move where the predator hunts the prey type of run. Hahaha… Anyways, we came back unharmed and totally LMAO at the thought of what just happened.
