Maginhawa: Episode 1

As many people know, Maginhawa St. is a haven for foodtrippers and I’ll give a mini tour for episode 1. Watch out for the next episode. =)

A Taste of Heaven
A Milkshake for everyone, this brings you back at a time where ice cream shops were a hype and everything is milky. The sweet, cold beverage was made from their own ice cream blend mixed with every possible sweets and toppings of your choice. Starting mix starts @ 80Php.

Mixxx Vigan’s Best
Walking around brings us to this Vigan themed home that serves everything Vigan. First off is the all time killer favorite Bagnet. We actually forgot to take a picture before eating it so here goes the look half way gone. Hahahahaha…. Then came in sinuglaw commonly known as kilawin, we munched this food and served as our appetizer to our long eatcapade. Our bill was @ 140Php.

 Muchentuchen Magic Carpet Ride
They offer Persian cuisine, we opted for ox brain, keema and of course paired it with pita. The place is really cozy and a perfect place for a chill beer hangout with friends. The place is surrounded by greens so I highly suggest to put on your insect repellent if you don’t want to be friendly with the resident mosquitoes around. Our bill was @ 198Php.

OX BRAIN (left), HUMMUS (right)

THE Z
The Z is a community of eateries varying from everything to anything.

Stoner’s
My eye caught the buttermilk fried chicken and no disagreement in buying this. It can be paired with rice or fries with coleslaw on the side. Another thing to order is its fried oreos. Our bill was 195Php.

The Backyard
My friend Jason is a fan of cold cuts so we decided to indulge his suggestion. Hunter is @ 220Php with 8 slices about 8-10 inches wide or in radius. Hahaha… (whatever geek info).

Health Break
The juices that made our day, starting off with that “Clemency* Juice” with its rather funny description “the one you make lagay sa pancit to make it asim @ 50php. Te taglne is clever and all but it’s just your regular calamansi tasting drink. We also ordered Guyabano Wheatgrass with china seeds, just reading it make my heart feel so healthy. =) I honestly like this drink ‘coz I’m half expecting it to taste like grass (you know that feeling like you’re suddenly a goat or a herbivore equivalent) but it was way too delicious to be that taste. It’s luscious and succulent for a drink.

Bochic
Originally I wanted to try pulled pork but Jays pointed out we should try the beer candied bacon and oh well since its bacon what could possibly go wrong. The serving was perfect for us and the bacon is a melt your mouths scrumptious that you’ll even want seconds.

Meshwe
Our eating buddy Edna is a shawarma fan that no way in hell she would miss this store. A bunch of people are still waiting to be served by the time we ordered and was happy to attest that the waiting time is worth it. The meat was well seasoned and oh! It was served with pita and fries.

Eat Good
They serve different kinds of street foods here but it was decided unanimously to have isaw. (sorry no picture)It came out really late and we are halfway done with our eating when it was served but nonetheless it was the first one to be engulfed. =) thanks to that sooooo complimentary vinegar. What’s an isaw without suka right?

The Iscreamist
An all time favorite to go to when in Maginhawa, I always make sure we have time to come to this store whenever in Maginhawa. Anyways, there was a less crowd when we went but still the line was considered semi-long. We waited for 15-20mins. Not bad right? The first time I went here it was crazy super snake-like long line. Got to thank the small rainfall I guess. The usual orders are of course the dragon’s breath smores paired with Xycret breakfast. I enjoyed the xycret breakfast more than I should. Hahaha. Initially, I turn away to goodies with alcohol content (since I’m acidic) but today, heck why not? Xycret breakfast is a bourbon and corn flakes ice cream that screams yum at a spoonful. and yeah still sober…

Jek’s Ku-bo Bulalo at Ulo-ulo
We were expecting way mouth-watering bowl of bulalo here but didn’t meet us even half-way. I think this joint is overrated. . For extras, Jason went to have his Vigan longga (not a fan of longga so yeah pass) since we fail to have it on Mixxx store earlier.

Cool Beans
The last stop, it’s always the best time to relax and have a cup of steaming hot coffee when you’re stomach is full and about to burst out. This library café is packed with a lot of something to read, browse or plainly books to stare at. And they even have ARCHIE!!! Yehet…  Our order are Hot Sagada Roast, Iced Sagada Roast, Hot tea and Strawberry Frappuccino. Total Bill @ 365 Php.

The Side Story...
On our waiting time on Iscreamist my geek, creepy and well-imaginative friends would like to try the liquid nitrogen on animals such as lizards, spiders and other things. We practically used the waiting time on all kinds of morbidity and the what-ifs the liquid nitrogen would be mixed with different kinds of elements. Oh well, this may be the result of a bunch of kids at heart who practically didn’t listen in their chemistry classes.

ü  The more the merrier. We spent around 500 Php\each on all these joints.
ü  Cash basis only.
